What can be done to attract bigger audiences to UK films?

Hollywood blockbusters dominate the film industry and are by far the most profitable films. Despite this, some British films have achieved global success in the past, the series of Harry Potter movies being the most successful, and even that was produced by an American production company (Warner Bros.). The James Bond films are also worldwide successful films. The majority of British films, however, are only successful in the UK and are not shown globally. American film production companies are very well-known globally, such as 20th Century Fox, but British film production companies are much less popular, such as Film4.

Some elements that make Hollywood blockbusters so successful is their access to higher budgets, use of more advanced technology and use of established actors/actresses.

British films could attract larger audiences by appealing to people worldwide who have watched and enjoyed other successful British films. This target audience could be reached on the internet by seeing what people have searched and by looking at their Facebook accounts and other social network sites. Also, they could advertise it on TV channels and websites which are popular with the target audience.

Also, producers of British films should try to use unique technology to try to attract their target audience.

In Avatar, the producers showed a short clip of the film for free. This encouraged those people who saw the clip to watch the entire film and allowed those people to talk about the film to their friends.

Also, they could create a videogame about the film to attract a younger audience. People who buy the PlayStation game of it would be tempted to watch the film as well and buy the DVD or watch it at the cinema.
